September Sunlight

September has always stood out to me because it’s a transitional month. In Canada, although we head back to school at the start of September, autumn doesn’t officially begin until September 22nd or 23rd. As I looked through photos on my phone from the month that just passed, I noticed sunshine, cornfields, pumpkins and country drives. I also thought back to the range of weather we had, from strong winds and pouring rain to bright skies and beautiful sunset glows.
September also saw the birthdays of people I love, my sweet mama first and foremost. This year, my friend Sarah P celebrated a milestone birthday with a lovely Coffee Open House outside her house. My friend Emily L had another year around the sun. It was a good month, filled with the return to a job that I enjoy at a school that I love. I’m grateful.

I wanted to capture some of my thoughts when it came to September. I hope you like it. Lake swims, watermelon juice dripping and melting hot days,
Well, those summer days drifted away like the song says.
September might say goodbye to summer sun and fun,
Yet somehow summer lingers while autumn’s just begun—
There’s a golden yellow to the September sun.
As September closes, my favourite season draws near,
With strong rain, bright leaf colours and wind that we hear.
Backpacks on children’s backs are filled with pencil cases and binders,
Teachers plan away as back-to-school is in full swing,
New classes, new pencils, new beginnings they bring.
Autumn whimsically appears with its beauty and warm aromas,
Apple picking, pumpkin patches and turkey that could put you in a coma.
All kinds of baking, from apple pies to pumpkin muffins, and don’t forget all those lattes,
My favourites still being that Pumpkin Spice and Chai Tea—
And Thanksgiving is coming—oh, what a treat!
That September glow watches my mom celebrate another birthday.
Weekend drives on country roads, seeing sunflowers and cornfields along the way.
This cool and crisp change in the air welcomes back sweater weather.
Curled-up evenings watching Gilmore Girls match the nostalgia of the season,
And reading a good book with a warm blanket, candle lit and tea at hand
Is simply grand.
What a blessing to live in such a gorgeous country like Canada.
I’ve travelled and lived in other beautiful places like Spain and Panama.
But I know that, out of the many reasons why I adore living in the North,
One of the main reasons I love Canada is its four seasons
And autumn is the best reason.

Happy October and welcome to your favourite month and season!! I love the poem and the festive fall photo of you!! My favourite lines were the armoa/coma rhyming - so clever. Hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving, my friend. We Canadians have much to be grateful for. 🧡
